Our mission

  • We provide farmers in Africa with access to the world market, at a fair price.
  • We create jobs and contribute to local economic development, through our local processing plants in Africa.

What we do and why

We buy cashew and macadamia from our farmer groups, process the raw nuts in our factories and market the kernels to the global food industry.

Our marketing agent Global Trading ‘bridges supply and demand for all kinds of nuts from all over the world, buying and selling through its global network.

A farmer needs a dream, to create hope for an impactful future. Nuts2 is actively partnering with the farmer community, linking them to the final buyer.

With Global Trading we provide farmers with access to the world market.

The problem

Although extreme poverty is declining globally, the region of Sub-Sahara Africa continues to suffer.

By 2030 167 million children will live in extreme poverty if the world does not take action to improve health and education.

United Nations report
  • 783 million people live below the international poverty line of US$1.90 a day.
  • Poverty means a lack of food, lack of access to water, electricity, schooling, medical care, high child mortality rate.

How nuts can help

  • Cashew farming provides a solid source of income to African families.
  • When the cashews are processed in a local factory this provides work and income to not only factory workers but also to suppliers of material and equipment etc.

Our story

Nuts2 was founded in in 1993 by Gerard Klijn, initially only operating under
the name of Global Trading & Agency, an international brokering and
trading office in nuts and dried fruits. Processing of raw cashew nuts in local
factories started from 2004 under a new entity that is now called Nuts2.
At present, our head office has just over 20 staff, with over 1500 factory
workers in our factories in Benin and Burkina Faso.
In addition, we have strategic partnerships with other African processing
facilities in Kenya, Togo, South Africa, Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau.

I had no ambition to make a fortune. Mere money making has never been my goal. I saw a marvelous future for the African countries, and I wanted to participate in the work of making these countries great. I have an ambition to build.
